About Malmö Design Days

During Malmö Design Days, 19–22 May 2027, the entire city becomes a stage for design and innovation. Local and international perspectives come together through exhibitions, talks and workshops in both familiar and unexpected places – with a focus on the power of design to drive change and shape the future.

Malmö Design Days is an international design festival organised by Form/Design Center. The festival brings together practitioners and organisations across design, architecture and crafts, creating a shared platform for new ideas, perspectives, encounters and collaborations.

The festival aims to challenge and broaden perceptions of what design is and what it can do – from solving problems and responding to people’s needs to driving innovation, making complex issues easier to understand and showing new ways forward.

Malmö as a stage

Malmö Design Days is rooted in the southern Swedish design scene, characterised by creativity, a strong culture of collaboration and international influences. During the festival, practitioners and perspectives from Sweden and around the world come together in Malmö, opening up opportunities for new ideas, unexpected encounters and collaborations.

During the festival, the entire city becomes a stage. Design takes over studios and galleries, cultural institutions and businesses, public spaces and places where you might not expect to encounter it. Over the years, everything from a flower kiosk and allotment gardens to a rowing club, hotel rooms and designers’ own homes has become part of the festival.

Experiencing Malmö Design Days is therefore also a way of discovering the city. The festival creates new connections between places, people and different areas of design – inviting visitors to experience both Malmö and design from new perspectives.

A meeting place for the design industry and the public

Malmö Design Days is both a meeting place for the design industry and an open city-wide festival for a broad design-interested audience. It brings together designers, architects, craftspeople, businesses, cultural organisations, other organisations, universities and colleges, and representatives from across society.

The festival creates opportunities for knowledge exchange, professional encounters and new collaborations, while giving more people the chance to discover design and the people behind it. The ambition is to strengthen Malmö as a design destination and create an international platform where ideas, people and opportunities can come together.

Since its launch in 2021, the festival – previously known as Southern Sweden Design Days – has established itself as a significant meeting place for design. During its first five years, the festival featured 850+ program events across 330+ locations, brought together close to 2,000 participants and over 100 partners, and welcomed close to 120,000 visits.

Malmö Design Days is organised by Form/Design Center – one of Sweden’s leading platforms for architecture, design and crafts.

SSDD 2025

From 22–25 May 2025, the fifth edition of Southern Sweden Design Days took place. Malmö was filled with exhibitions, seminars, workshops, and festivities across around 87 locations – ranging from artistically progressive objects to projects that gave new life to industrial materials. Galleries, shops, and studios opened their doors, and visitors could plan their favorites through the festival’s website.

The theme for 2025 was “ECHO” – an invitation to explore the dynamic relationship between past, present, and future. Just like an echo, design is not something isolated – it resonates, evolves, and influences its surroundings.
