Tema: GIVE / TAKE

Design is never a one-way act. Every idea begins by drawing on something — a material, a place, a body of knowledge, someone’s time, energy or attention. The question is what it gives in return. 

GIVE / TAKE is the theme for Malmö Design Days 2027: an invitation to explore design as exchange, relationship and reciprocity. Between people and place. Between makers and audiences. Between human and more-than-human worlds. 

What if an installation only comes alive through participation? If a work is completed, altered or reimagined by those who encounter it? If materials continue their journey after the festival, or if a temporary intervention leaves a lasting trace in the city? 

GIVE / TAKE asks us to look beyond what design produces — towards what it enables, what it shares, and what it leaves behind.
